Soulful dream-pop quintet The Hush Now are pleased to release to radio and the blogosphere its delicate and sublime cover of the classic Ride tune "Taste." The song was originally included as part of Clicky Clicky Music Blog's locals-only compilation Nof*ckingwhere, which saw 11 Boston bands covering the entirety of the legendary Oxford, England-based shoegaze quartet's classic 1990 debut Nowhere.
The Hush Now's rendition of "Taste" has already gotten spins on esteemed radio outlets including KEXP and Boston's WMBR and late, lamented terrestrial WFNX. The Bostonian's version of the song dramatically slows the tempo of the original and expands its depth with myriad gossamer layers of guitar, bass and synth. Kelly's vocal, by contrast, is out front and solemn, making a song that is a quasi-religious experience for Ride fans sounds damn-near liturgical. It's like an endless length of fuse without a bomb, it just burns and burns and burns and then winks out.
The Boston quintet's most recent full-length Memos upon its release a year ago was the #2 most added on the CMJ Top 20 adds list and #3 most added on the CMJ AAA Top 5 adds list. The album also drew accolades from heavy hitters in the blogosphere including PopMatters, The Deli, and Ryan's Smashing Life.
"[T]here’s no shortage of finely crafted pop here." -- PopMatters
"[I]t may destroy the planet." -- The Deli
"Undeniably The Hush Now's finest work to date" -- Ryan's Smashing Life
