Being the hardest working man in music and all, Chilly Gonzales is also in the process of completing a feature length film (trailer) that shares the same title as the new album, Ivory Tower. Co-written by himself and Celine Sciamma (who wrote the award winning French Film Waterlillies / La Naissance des Pieuvres) and starring Chilly, Tiga and Peaches, the film is an existentialist sports comedy about chess and success. The first single Never Stop (#7) produced by Boys Noize marks a musical departure for Gonzales from his last albums Solo Piano (2004) and Soft Power (2007) as he delves into yet another genre with ease, seemingly doing it better than all the others who spend a lifetime trying.  
Chilly Gonzales is also known as a “Super Producer,” working with a wide array of artists. Best known for his production work with Feist (whose album The Reminder earned him a Grammy nom & Feist five JUNO wins), Peaches, Jamie Lidell and Tiga.

“If you’ve never heard music before, you’ve never heard nothing like us” says Andrew Toups of Lafayette, LA pop outfit Brass Bed. Truer words were never spoken. Drawing influences from Television, Big Star, Dukes of the Stratosphere and 60’s pop revivalist acts like the Louisiana rooted Elephant Six Collective, Brass Bed’s Melt White takes on the shape of an album by a very accomplished act. It's difficult to accept that this is the band's first official release, but that's what it is. Drifting effortlessly between abstract noise, swirling guitars and skillfully crafted pop tones, the sound is equal parts classic and modern, ballsy & still sweet? Isn't that the code these days?  From this wealth of musical wisdom comes their new LP Melt White, presenting 11 sonic adventures. Recorded in Austin, TX with Danny Reisch at Cacophony Recorders and Good Danny's studios, this album presents the potent live Brass Bed sound on tracks like "Pop Mission" and "Begs Me Not To Beg" and studio playfulness of their early home recordings on "Aria" and "God Save The Thieves".  If crafting an amazingly diverse and powerful rock record isn’t enough, the band is also touring the country in support of it, and widening their travels and tales with gems like the time Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse) slapped Christiaan Madar (lead guitar/vocals) in a Dallas, TX bar after Madar said he was from Louisiana. No blood spilled, just awkward confusion as Brock was also very insistent that the slap be returned without explanation for his initial assault,

Devil’s Brigade are an all-star punk group featuring Matt Freeman and Tim Armstrong of Rancid and DJ Bonebrake, drummer of X and the Knitters.   Rancid fans have always cherished Matt’s deep punk growl on his featured songs on Rancid albums, and now Devil’s Brigade brings his singing, rockabilly-inspired bass slap, and classic punk songwriting to the fore.  With Tim Armstrong’s Duane Eddy lead guitar and the rock-steady rhythm of DJ Bonebrake, Devil’s Brigade offers up twelve songs that mix equal parts Johnny Cash, the Pogues, and Sun rockabilly, in a combustible cocktail that will have fans slamming on this fall’s tour with the Street Dogs.  On tracks like “Bridge of Gold” with vocals by Armstrong, the band stretches out, adding mandolin and banjo to their sound, while “Ride Harley Ride” features some slinky vibraphone.  With guest vocals from Rancid’s Lars Frederikson, thousands of Rancid fans will want to own this album, but with a national tour this fall, Devil’s Brigade will have a life all of their own.

Before the tumult and heartache, things were "beautiful and free" for a brief moment at the beginning of the last Eels album, End Times. On that album Eels leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, sifted through the emotional wreckage of a romance gone wrong while living in an increasingly foreboding and unfriendly world. The follow-up to that harrowing work finds E not only recovered, but surprisingly invigorated - discovering something more permanently beautiful and free in the new album's second track, "I'm a Hummingbird". The ninth Eels studio album, Tomorrow Morning, is the brightest and most overtly uplifting work of the Eels' fourteen year career.  This marks the final installment of a trilogy that started with 2009's Hombre Lobo and 2010's End Times.  Asked about the new album's title, Everett says, "After what seems like an incredibly dark time, the hope that tomorrow is coming gives us all another chance. As long as there's a morning tomorrow, anything is possible."

Have Tera Melos gone pop? Well, no....but yes. Much like the band's intricate and complex song structures, it's not quite that simple. Patagonian Rats is packed with melodic hooks and jabs that on paper might seem to defy the band's experimental edge. There's even clear and distinct vocals throughout - a first for the band, where vocals, if any were previously awash with distortion and layered in  the mix. But, particulars aside, Patagonian Rats is the type of album that sticks with you.

The Boston bred punk band Street Dogs return to champion the working class and to re-ignite punk rock with their finest and most urgent record to date, their self-titled fifth studio album, due out on August 31 via Hellcat Records. Following the release, the band will be touring in support of the new album along with Matt Freeman’s (Rancid) side project, Devils Brigade, and this year’s Celtic punk heroes Flatfoot 56.  Co-produced by bass player Johnny Rioux and Rick Barton and engineered and mixed by Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX) at the infamous punk rock recording studio The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO., the self-titled Street Dogs album is a vigorous testament to the band’s longevity and ability to write inspiring punk rock that touches the soul and raises the fists.

The appeal of a modern, on the rise indie band like Jukebox the Ghost is simple: They write catchy songs. On top of that, they're dynamic, skilled musicians. The band's records are carefully structured, yet wildly diverse affairs. And the live show? Energetic, crowd-pleasing, cathartic. 
The Philly trio's new album, Everything Under the Sun, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and set for release this fall on Yep Roc, highlights all of these elements over 11 tracks, each one leaving its own unique sonic footprint. But constructing and arranging the songs to their full potential took years of preparation, both on the road and in all of the basements, houses, hotel rooms and studios where the songs were born. 
"There was never a lull in songwriting, even when we were touring." explains guitarist/co-vocalist Tommy Siegel. "We went into the studio with 25 nearly-finished and arranged songs, and we put a lot of time into crafting each one. It was a conscious effort on all of our parts to mature as a band." 
Since their 2008 debut, Let Live and Let Ghosts, a sunny, piano-led explosion of pop exuberance, Jukebox The Ghost has logged hundreds of shows and thousands of hours on tour -- all of which helped the guys develop the patience and perspective needed to deliver a more intricate and serious second record.

Winter storms are times of punishing cold and discomfort, but provide an important source of water for eventual spring growth. Likewise for Dead Confederate, the series of New Jersey blizzards that besieged the recording of sophomore album Sugar (a reference to the record snowfall) also heralded growth from the darker, somber realm of their critically acclaimed Wrecking Ball. With an evolving approach and focused, streamlined sound, Sugar explores new styles beyond the aching, bleak psychadelia of the debut.
“We were expressing long, drawn-out anguish on Wrecking Ball, but it would have felt repetitive to do it again. They just weren’t the songs we were writing,” vocalist-songwriter Hardy Morris said. “It was a very natural progression to do something a little different.” 
That progression was shaped by tours with legends Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets, which gave Dead Confederate an increased appreciation for the early underground bands of the 80s and 90s that laid the foundation on which their sound is built. Bringing in star producer John Agnello — who, aside from Dinosaur Jr., has also helmed records by Sonic Youth, Drive-By Truckers, and The Hold Steady — the band also got a few ideas to incorporate into its own work: New songs that developed were lighter and tighter (while Wrecking Ball had seven songs longer than five minutes, Sugar has none), without abandoning the driving guitarwork and unbridled emotion that has set the band apart.

Two years ago Tero “Camu Tao” Smith died after a grueling battle with cancer.  He was a friend, a son, a brother, a groom-to-be and last but not least a brilliant producer, singer, rapper and entertainer. This summer, Camu Tao’s first and final solo album King Of Hearts will be released on Definitive Jux in collaboration with Fat Possum. 
“King Of Hearts is essentially a collection of demos and unfinished songs Camu had created for his album.  Some were recorded professionally, some were not. The music of Cotton Jones speaks of transition: the passage from one form, state of mind, style or place to another. Songs become doorways to the past, or windows that open on some unnamed future, where innocence can still exist and perfection is thrown to the wind. The Glowstream is a place centered between North and South Cumberland. It's not really called the Glowstream – just a stream that rolls to a dead end by the train tracks downtown. A place to sit, undisturbed in the cool shade, and see the interstate bend around glowing steeples, as cars and trucks break their speed – it's beautiful – how the city materializes, an oasis, after driving many miles through the mountains along I-68– to this private spot, where it’s possible to witness all the paces change.
Michael Nau (Page France) & Whitney McGraw skipped town months ago, leaving the old haunts in Cumberland behind... To sift through the old noise, they walked off the edge of their world... To sound the depths, the songwriters relocated, to Georgia, far south of the Glowstream. "We spent a lot of time on the bank of that stream - alone, together, gathered like a flock of birds, examining the next move," said Nau. "Many of the tunes on this record feel like Cumberland to me. When I'm there, it's like a dream - all familiar sound and light, where the factories and birds sing the same song."

The Revere is a power trio consisting of 22-year-old brothers Sean Kelly (guitar, vocals) and Pat Kelly (drums), and 21-year-old Michael Pearson on bass. All three are currently students at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. The band proudly presents their debut album, “The Great City” - a concept album about a group of people led by an old man on a journey. The album was recorded in New York City and produced by Jason Spiewak (Chris Volz, Five.Bolt.Main, Pat McGee), Ryan Carter Newell (guitarist for Sister Hazel) and Rich Smalley. 
The album features Sean Kelly’s gritty vocals soaring on top of guitar-driven, up-tempo music. Though a rock record at heart, “The Great City” offers a wide range of peaks and valleys. Lead single “The Old Man and The Inn” is a straight-ahead rocker; “The Rose” is a highly groove oriented song about a beautiful woman; “Rest” is a brooding ballad that ends with the haunting sounds of a child’s music box, and the title track of the album, “The Great City,” is a raucous celebration.
