The Soft Hands Release Hours Pass By Formed back in 2005, The Soft Hands are Matt Fry (vocals/guitar), Casey Stuht (drums), C. Elizabeth Lindsey (bass/vocals). But, don’t call them a 3 piece band, they’re more like a family, living, breathing, sleeping music. under the same roof. Matt explains: “When you’re in a family, you don’t always think the same way and value the same things but you’re bonded together by blood and history, so you move forward together and stick together and find ways to come together. In some ways, our band is like that. We did not seek out people who thought the same way or wanted same things musically and have an obvious template to choose from. We got together and decided to stick together and now we each put out our own energy and find ways in each song to harness it and unify it.” “I was thoroughly impressed to say the least. The Soft Hands were anything but quiet. There music was loud, energetic, and technically amazing.” “Long Beach’s The Soft Hands are jangly and nervous and exciting — everything that you like about older SoCal acts like The Minutemen, but fresh and new.” “Head-spinning, pulse-quickening, all thoughts swimming together like a rapidly accelerating cyclone: Take that sensation, but spin it in a positive, non-panic-attack-inducing light.” “The Soft Hands smash together all of the best rock mythologies and ideologies: Mission of Burma, Pere Ubu, the Minutemen.” myspace.com/TheSoftHands ![]() Frank Hoier and the Weber Brothers

“Jesus Don’t Give Tax Breaks To The Rich” Released for Download Frank Hoier Announces Tour w/The Weber Brothers Just three years ago, Frank Hoier packed up his life in SoCal and moved towards SoHo. After just three months on the New York music scene, Frank made the cover of the city’s Urban Folk Magazine. In New York, he’s a regular fixture at The Sidewalk Café and Roots n’Ruckus, but can also be found performing at The Cake Shop, Piano’s, and Pete’s Candy Store. Frank Hoier has shared the stage with such notable acts as Jaymay, The Bowmans, Sam Shepard, The Powder Kegs, and Calvin Johnson. Well practiced in the ragtime and slide guitar blues of Blind Willie McTell, the vocal enthusiasm of Little Richard, and Bob Dylan’s skillful lyrics, Frank Hoier is poised to take the position of Anti-Folk royalty. His Guthrie-esque anthem “Jesus Don’t Give Tax Breaks To The Rich” has been hailed as “the most perfect protest song written yet this millennium” (PopHeadWound). The song made the Top 50 on Neil Young’s anti-war website, Living with War Today. Trust US
Fidotrust Records
Fidotrust Records Presents: Trust US There is a vibrant and eclectic music community in the city of Long Beach, CA. This compilation is an attempt to capture the energy that these bands have to offer. Featuring national acts such as Free Moral Agents (w/Ikey Owens of Mars Volta), Crystal Antlers, and Dios(Malos). Other highlights include local favorites The Soft Hands, Horns (w/ ex-members of sHoeGazeR), BlowUpBlow, Arrow Down (w/ Paul from Gameface), and Deadly Finns (w/ Mike Vermillion of GoGoGo Airheart fame). The Story: When Long Beach’s Alex’s Bar opened, it filled a void left by the closure of the city’s only venues where touring bands could play. The re-establishment of a music scene began to flourish and has culminated with this compilation, the first to deal exclusively with the city’s currently burgeoning music scene. Put together by Long Beach locals, (Fidotrust Records) this comp features the hardworking, up-and-coming and best Long Beach bands. Trust Us captures a shared mindset of musicians who live in a place that is equal parts city, college town, suburbia, ghetto and beach oasis. The effects come through song after song ranging from loud and raucous (Tinuana Knife Fight) to dance-y (Slippers) to beautiful (The Year Zero). It’s a time capsule for this definitive time in Long Beach’s music scene. Overall, there are only a few noticeable omissions, but with 23 tracks, from Crystal Antlers to The Valley Arena, you can’t really complain. A compilation like this was way past due, and fortunately when somebody decided to take on the task, it was done right. - Alex Roman, LA Record Fidotrust.com ![]() Little Death
Little Death’s BIG U.S. Debut In October of 2008, the UK’s Little Death will be self releasing an appropriately untitled E.P. To preview the album, the band has released the track “Baby, Can You Dig Your Man?” for download. (direct link below) Little Death is singer/songwriter/guitarist Kc Underwood, guitarist Nathan Hewitt and Bassist Julianna Kurokawa. Respectively born in California, Canada and Egypt, they now live and make music in London, making their sound diametrical, passports heavily decorated, and hearts forever homesick. Their sound is one that reveals an admiration for the various musical movements of Detroit 1968, L.A. 1985, and Seattle 1990. This upcoming E.P. was recorded in the various basements, dungeons and attics the band has rehearsed in. In The Press: “fierce, loud , romantic, fiery guitars and energy-packed vocals that stray from syrupy tones to all-out yells give Little Death their chaotic yet melodic sound”. - Total Guitar “The band skillfully combine stomping energy with psychedelic garage rock”. - Art Rocker MP3 for “Baby, Can You Dig Your Man?” ![]() Blue Eyed Blacks
Black Eyed Soul
Chicken Ranch Records
Nashville’s Blue Eyed Blacks (a name originally derived from The Jesus & Mary Chain lyric), are releasing their debut album, entitled Black Eyed Soul, this October on Chicken Ranch Records. After seeing his fair share of insanity in the music scene, frontman and musical mastermind Jason Moon Wilkins decided to do things his own way. Together with Producer/Engineer Neilson Hubbard (who has worked with artists such as Aaron Robinson and Glen Philips) , Folk-rock artist Garrison Starr, Vocalist Betsy Roo (who co-wrote the Dolly Partton song “Jesus & Gravity”), Justin Townes Earle (Bloodshot), Billy Mercer (Ryan Adams), Rollum Haas (The Features, Brendan Benson), John Deaderick (Patty Griffin) and a slew of other artists, Wilkins has spent almost two years putting this record together. Jason Moon Wilkins has certainly seen some ridiculous incidents during his music career. Back in his first band, The Rest, he experienced everything from major label attention, to a tour cancellation as a result of the drummers girlfriend selling his drumkit for crack and a show stopped because the same girlfriend confronted said drummer with a loaded gun mid-set, and lead singer Kevin Travis’ incarceration as an accomplice to second degree murder (whew…). At the climax of it all, Jason decided to make the move to Nashville alone at the age of Twenty. He made himself a regular fixture in the Nashville music scene, playing on multiple albums by Josh Rouse, Garrison Starr, Neilson Hubbard, Kate York, and fronting 90’s Dedicated Records band (Spiritualized, Beth Orton) Toybean (which experienced it’s fair share of record label drama). After a long break from performing, Jason has finally returned, this time forming his own music project, and recruiting those he had worked with in the past to help him with his dream, Blue Eyed Blacks. A hard copy of his ( their ) dream, Black Eyed Soul is scheduled for release mid-October. | ![]() Houseguest

The Hush Now
Self-Released
Boston based indie-pop-shoegazers, The Hush Now, are releasing their debut self-titled album in late October. After a life changing experience in L.A. (full story below) Noel Kelly (former guitarist of L.A.’s Cerulean) has solidified his life, line up, and track list for his debut with The Hush Now. For fans of Apples in Stereo, Guided By Voices, Shout Out Louds, Built to Spill, even Hall & Oates and 10cc, The Hush Now’s upcoming release will easily fit in with your favorites. Check out the MP3 for “Traditions” that was just released for download and hear it for yourself: So, what do a van, a priest, and Queen have in common? They all added up to one momentus night that lead to the birth of The Hush Now. It was a dark and stormy night in Los Angeles when Noel Kelly found himself careening down a windy road trying to drive stick shift with a broken wrist. Unable to make the turn in time, he came to with a flagpole shooting through the windshield, Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” on the radio, and one angry priest (due to one large dent in the side of his church) peering down at him. With this near-death / bone-shattering experience, Noel packed up and moved to Portland. It was there he began writing what we now know to be The Hush Now’s debut self-titled album. Noel eventually landed in Boston, where he teamed up with Mike DiMinno, an elementry school teacher and full scale battle re-enactor. He also happens to be a session quality bass player with a dulcet voice and an amazing knack for etching stunning background vocals. Barry Marino (Often Airborne, This Car Up, and Rock & Roll Camp Counselor) joined in on Drums. Kurt Shneider is Barry’s roommate and bandmate. He is an audio engineer by trade (from Berklee). The last piece of the puzzle was Sir David Newton of the Mighty Lemon Drops. “I had worked with Dave in the past with Cerulean and knew that I didn’t want to work with anybody else on my first solo project” says Noel, “He was cool enough to humour me and so we all flew out to Los Angeles nearly two full years to the date of my accident to record the first Hush Now album, and hence the genesis of a band.” http://www.myspace.com/thehushnow ![]() Electric Touch
Electric Touch
Justice Records
International glam-rockers, Electric Touch have just announced that their debut self-titled album will be released in August on Justice Records. This album is a tour de force of rock hard riffs and brilliant melodies that leave you humming and buzzing on Electric Touch all day. Produced by Frenchie Smith (Built to Spill, The Dandy Warhols, Meat Puppets) with additional producing and mixing by Gavin Mackillop (Goo Goo Dolls, Sugarcult, The La’s), this album announces the arrival of a bold new talent with a seal of approval. Lead singer Shane Lawler came all the way from Nottingham, England, to Austin, TX following his love of music and a former band. It was in Austin where he found his true sound with guitarist Christopher Leigh and twin brother Louis Messina who plays drums. Ross DuBois came in on bass to solidify the line up of Electric Touch. Together, they mix their backgrounds of English pop, Bay Area punk, and deep Texan blues with influences like Kiss, Aerosmith, Muddy Waters, and David Bowie, Electric Touch puts their mics where their mouths are, and are currently hitting up every major summer festival in the US to prove they can bring the rock live. They wowed crowds at SXSW, Coachella, and are en route for Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Summerfest, and Austin City Limits all while packing venues all over Texas in their “off time”. In a recent interview at Coachella, Shane summed up the band and their motives: “I don’t like my rock-stars to necessarily remind me how awful the world can be… a lot of people do that. We want to have a little bit of escapism for people and to come and have a good time. So leave your troubles at the door… and hopefully we can put a smile on your face”. “Barely legal Texas-bred glam rock cherubs Electric Touch took the stage just next door, turning in their fake ID’s for glam rock tunes that would make Kings of Leon or The Darkness proud.” http://MySpace.com/ElectricTouchMusic ![]() Royal Bangs
